Code of Conduct

On 4 April 2007, the government issued a revised Model Code of Conduct for members. Click here to view a copy of the revised Code, The Local Authorities (Model Code of Conduct) Order 2007 No.1159.
The intention behind the new Code was to make it clearer and simpler and more proportionate and to allow newly appointed members to understand and remember the Code without any real difficulty.
Every authority is required to adopt a Code of Conduct that sets out rules governing the behaviour of its members.
The Code of Conduct covers areas of individual behaviour such as members not abusing their position or not misusing their authority's resources. In addition there are rules governing disclosure of interest and withdrawal from meetings where members have relevant interests. Members are also required to record on the public register their financial and other interests.
Humberside Police Authority adopted their new Code of Conduct on 18 September 2007. As the adopted code was amended for local purposes it differs slightly from the model version. Click on the logo at the top of the page to download Humberside Police Authority's Code of Conduct.

A key function of the Standards Board for England is to provide advice and guidance to authorities on the Code of Conduct.
The aim of the Standards Board for England's guidance is to help members, monitoring officers and standards committees to successfully interpret the Code of Conduct.
